Labour Councillor (Kirkby, Merseyside) Charlie Preston –Convicted and jailed for 5 years in 1982 for assault and burglary. Preston broke into the home of a 64 year old man and beat him up in his bed as he slept, before robbing the house. The judge described the case as “A bad a matter of burglary as I can remember”.
